The judges for the Brno Short Story Writing Contest have their
entries and they are busily reading through them. The contest winners will be
announced in early- to mid-June. In the meantime, here is some information that
might be interesting.
BSSWC By the numbers:
• Feb. 1, 2017 — The Brno Short Story Writing Contest was
announced and began accepting submissions.
• March 5, 2017 at 11:47 — The first entry was submitted.
• March 25, 2017 at 01:52 — The sixth entry was
submitted, making the contest official.
(Per the Official Rules: “In the
event that five entries or less are received, the contest will be canceled.
Each entrant would receive 200kc. The remainder of the money would be returned
to the Brno Expat Centre.”)
• 87 — the total number of entries for the BSSWC.
• 80 — the number of entries made in April.
• 32 — the number of entries made on the final day, April
30.
• 8 — the number of entries submitted during the final hour
before the midnight deadline.
• 4 — the number of entries submitted during the final six
minutes.
• 2 — the number of minutes before the deadline when the
final entry was submitted.
• 2,499 — the longest entry, by word count (two).
• 225 — the shortest entry, by word count.
• 152,136 — the total number of words in all of the entries.
• 1,748 — the average number of words for all entries.
• 2,502 — the length of all of the titles and synopses, by
word count.
• 6 — the number of entries that did not include a synopsis.
• 4 — the number of entries that required a retransmission
because of a technical problem.
• 1 — the number of entries that did not include the
author’s name and information in the email.
• 0 — the number of entries that had the same title.
• 56 — the number of women who submitted entries.
• 31 — the number of men who submitted entries.
